Dunsborough WA is a pretty seaside town that overlooks the crystal clear waters of Geographe Bay and has become one of the most popular family holiday spots in Western Australia. Dunsborough is a popular tourist destination for both Western Australians and visitors from all over the globe; In 1999 and 2007 Dunsborough was voted the state's best tourist destination for the sheltered waters of Geographe Bay and the ideal setting with it's quiet coves, sandy beaches, surrounding national park, nature reserves and scenic walking trails. Dunsborough is popular for fishing, surfing, golf, wine tours, family holidays, whale watching, sea sports, mountain bike riding, bush walking, relaxing on the beach, kite boarding and much more.
Set on the beautiful white sandy beach of Geographe Bay, facing north to the Indian Ocean, Dunsborough's beaches boast calm, sheltered water and, like many of Western Australia's beaches, are refreshingly uncrowded. Dunsborough is a few minutes from Yallingup surf beach where often huge waves are produced by the incoming southers swells especial in winter. During the last decade the town has grown quickly and become quite affluent; consequently cafes have popped up everywhere as well as retail and food outlets. From fast food, to beautifulo take-a-way Thai or curries, through to fine dining - Dunsbourgh has it all. All ranges of tastes and budgets are catered for in Dunsborough and the spot is a very popular backpacking destination. The town is a common destination for annual school leavers in WA and also people attending the Leeuwin Estate Concerts. Many of the South West Region's fine wineries and restaurants are located just a few km's from the centre of town. The town is named after the nearby Dunn Bay, which was named after Captain Richard Dalling Dunn. Land for a townsite was set aside here in the late 1830s, and there is a recorded whale fishery at "Dunsbro" in 1850 and the town was gazetted in 1879 as "Dunsborough." The HMAS Swan, located in Dunsborough, is a top spot for diving as it is the largest accessible dive wreck in the Southern Hemisphere. A number of local companies offer charter trips to the wreck and guided dives are popular. Dunsborough also hosts the annual whale migration and a number of species can be viewed either from the beach, cliffs or from boats and a number of whale watching tours are very popular. Dunsborough is serviced by Busselton's public bus service route 903 run by South West Coach Lines. South west coach lines and Transwa coach services also run service to Dunsbrough for connections to other south west towns and Perth.
